It is to sketch out a drawing before adding the details and finally erasing the sketch.
For example, this would be a cat sketch:
A sketch is consisted of circles for the main parts, lines for legs and the tail, and even more lines to connect these parts. After doing this, start to add details for the complete drawing and don't forget to erase these when your drawing is finished! Or you could keep them .-.
